International freedom
Antarctica was the last continent to be discovered by the human race, primarily because it is surrounded by the Antarctic Ocean, which is really cold. Countries are expected to follow the Treaty of Antarctica when interacting with it, where no country is allowed to lay a claim to the continent, extract resources for national gain, engage in military/nuclear operations and expell toxic waste in or near it. The countries of Australia, Argentina, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom made claims before the Treaty of Antarctica was established meaning these claims are frozen but not illegitimate.
These countries maintain research stations in their respective parts of Antarctica to reaffirm their claims made on the continent, but this system of claiming is mellowed by the Antarctic Treaty which forces countries mentioned to allow any other country to also build and maintain their own research stations.
Ideology
The ideology of Antarctica is to promote free, peaceful research of the large continent. The Antarctic Treaty actually forces countries to make their research public to the international community.
Upholders of the Antarctic Treaty
The treaty of Antarctica is upheld by a total of 58 countries as of 2026 who together form a forum of sorts (Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting) which is responsible for respecting the treaty of Antarctica. 29 of these countries have voting rights which were granted to them due to their significant contributions of Antarctic research. The remaining 29 countries are countries that have simply agreed to the Antarctic Treaty but don't hold voting rights. The Secretariat of the Antarctic Treaty acts as intermediary and general support during the Consultative Meeting.
Enforcers of the Antarctic Treaty
These are intergovernmental bodies act as neutral bodies that are in charge of upholding the points made in the Treaty of Antarctica otherwise known as the Antarctic Treaty System or ATS. Checks are decentralized and carried out by the nations themselves. For example, the 58 countries that take part in the Antarctic Treaty hold the right to inspect other nations' research stations and equipment to make sure they're using it for peaceful and scientific purposes.
Climate Change
The ice shelf of Antarctica is melting at accelerated rates because of climate change. In some places, people are even saying that climate change or even that Antarctica isn't real. That what I just said isn't happening. There are real people who think like this. I am not one to judge. You would know. But normally when I don't understand something, I do my own research. I look at trusted sources and I don't fall for traps.
But, you know, sometimes I fall for things like that. You know me, obviously. I'm not perfect. I do dabble in some conspiracy theories. But sometimes they're necessary to understand the self. The soul. My soul. I want to understand my soul, because the faster I do, the healthier I become.
There is no soul and your consciousness is the result of your brain being an efficient computer, that's just something that I personally believe though. No hate to religious people, I just find it hard to believe that I have a soul.
You obviously know me and what I believe in but I don't believe in a soul and that's an obvious thing about me but you should be somewhat worried about the icecaps thing atleast somewhat
Less so if it is not important for the 60 or so years then you are safe
