Asia

Welcome!

A continent as big as Asia cannot be done justice with a single page, mostly because there are way too many cultures to cover. I'll do my best to keep it (somewhat) brief and representative of Asia's respective regions, but it'll be more generalized and less about specifics.

Central

A region in Asia that was big into hordes, horseback and yurts. It was the barrier between Europe and the rest of Asia, spices and other goods were frequently traded here through the Silk Road. Islam, brought by the Arabs from West Asia (the Middle East) is the dominant religion, blending Islamic traditions with native central Asian ones. In the late 1800s, Russia invaded and conquered the majority of the region in order to have a sizeable buffer zone between its heartland and China.

East

A region historically dominated by Chinese culture, it having spread its Confucian ideals, writing systems and more to Japan and Korea under the pretext of being 'The Middle Kingdom', a kingdom culturally superior to its surrounding barbaric neighbors. Origin of the rice paddy farms.

South

Home to the religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism. Later colonized by the British, and with the independence of Pakistan and India it caused the displacement of millions of Hindus and Muslims due to the British drawing the borders without much regard for the native populations. South Asia has deeply integrated (Hindu) caste systems, dividing the populations into a hierarchal pyramid defined by social statuses.

Southeast

Colonized (with the exception of Thailand) by Europeans which caused sizeable Christian populations to form. Buddhism is the most dominant religion in Southeast Asia, evident by the various temples scattered across the region. Islam is also a practiced religion, the largest in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, brought on by former leaders who helped spread Islam.

West

West Asia, or the Middle East, is home to the three Abrahamic religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam. The latter of which is the dominant religion in the region. The Arabian Peninsula houses Mecca and Medina, two holy sites for Muslims. During the 8th and 13th centuries West Asia underwent an Islamic Golden Age, making groundbreaking strides in astronomy, medicine, mathematics, chemistry and more.
